Meet
Laura Harrison
Music Practitioner
Laura brings a whole lot of heart, playfulness, and expertise to Sounds Like This. With a background as a qualified paediatric Occupational Therapist and a lifelong love of music, she’s passionate about creating joyful, connected experiences for little ones and their grown-ups.
Music has always been a big part of Laura’s world. From belting out Disney tunes on family canoe trips to playing cousin-created songs on cassette tapes during long car rides to Nana’s, her childhood was steeped in melody and imagination. She went on to formalise her love of music as an Alto, performing in choirs throughout high school and into university.
A fun fact? Laura has an uncanny talent for recognising songs in just a few notes – a champion of the game “Heardle” (yes, like Wordle, but with tunes), she’s got a musical memory like no other!
When she’s not singing or playing, Laura can be found sipping on a cuppa (Melbourne Breakfast is her go-to) – though she’s had to tone down her impressive collection of over 50 teas due to, shall we say… storage challenges.
Above all, Laura is a huge believer in the power of PLAY. Whether it’s dressing up, dancing like no one’s watching, or turning a rainy day into a musical adventure, she knows that play is one of the most powerful tools for learning, connection, and growth. Inspired by playful characters like Maria in The Sound of Music, Laura brings that same spirit into every class she runs.
Her first glimpse into the magic of play came as a camp counsellor in Canada, where she spent summers singing, laughing, and making memories with children aged 7–16. Now, she gets to witness that same magic every week at Sounds Like This’ music classes – where music and play help children grow into braver, kinder, more curious humans (and where adults get to have a bit of fun too!).
