Julie is the heart and soul behind Sounds Like This — a passionate educator, musician, and mother whose love of music has been woven through her life since the age of seven, when she first fell in love with a little beige Yamaha recorder. (She took it everywhere — the bath, the garden, you name it!) These days, not much has changed — you’ll still find her creating music daily in her little garden studio, or playing with her children in the park. She is that singing mama.

From flute and piano lessons to busking at local markets, from performing in the Sydney Olympic Opening Ceremony to touring Beijing, Julie has played music on some of the biggest stages and in the most intimate spaces. She’s worked with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist — but her true calling has always been sharing the magic of music with others.

After completing her Bachelor of Music at the Melba Conservatorium, Julie helped design and run their lesson and concert programs before going on to create the music school she always dreamed of. What lights her up most is that spark — the moment a child’s eyes twinkle with pride when something finally “clicks.”

Motherhood deepened Julie’s mission. She understands firsthand the rollercoaster of early parenting and wished for spaces that supported mothers, honoured children as they are, and used music to nurture connection, confidence, and joy.

So she built them.

Today, Julie combines her wealth of musical expertise with a deep curiosity about the developing brain, designing programs that don’t just teach music — they help children thrive and parents feel seen, supported, and empowered.

When you join Sounds Like This, you’re not just learning songs. You’re stepping into a space carefully crafted by someone who’s walked the journey, lived the music, and believes wholeheartedly in the power it has to shape brighter futures.

Welcome — you’re in the best hands.
