Out of ideas to entertain the kids at home?

No more head scratching trying to invent fun ideas for active ankle biters at home. Our Family Music Club gives you access to 100s of short, interactive, music-making videos for clever humans up to 10 years old.

We embrace wholesome, whole-body music making using props you can innovate from everyday items around the house.

Ready to understand, engage,
and connect with your little love through the power of music?

Musical engagement does wonders for so many areas of your child’s life.

Language skills.

Social development.

Emotional literacy.

Overall wellbeing (wonderful things like self regulation and self advocacy).

The videos in our online music library don’t just instill a love of music for life.
They help your little one thrive in EVERY area of their life.

Access hundreds of fun music making videos that empower kids and parents alike.

Every video is backed by brain changing science to encourage young minds to grow. You’ll receive nuggets of early childhood wisdom to understand why these at-home musical activities are good for the noggin.

Each video has a clear format to provide routine, predictability, and a calming effect on the whole household.

Here’s how we do it

We carefully choose songs, movement, storytelling, instrumental play, and props to help your child:

  • Build confidence through creativity and expression

  • Sing songs pitched to suit their growing vocal anatomy

  • Build their relationship with you — their carer

  • Explore beat, pitch, rhythm, and timbre through percussive play

  • Build cross-hemispheric development and fine and gross motor movement

  • Improve verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Hear others sing our praises

“My little one lights up when she hears Julie’s voice. Bubs and I love the online class subscription. It’s especially perfect for those moments where my brain has run out of ideas and my girl wants to play.

Julie is a gorgeous soul who facilitates a gorgeous connection between me and my bubs without even being in the room. <3 “

What we put in is as important as what we keep out

This is what you WON’T find

  • No backing track Our video library includes a quality, inclusive repertoire that allows for organic, wholesome music making WITHOUT the icky backing tracks.

  • No auto tuned voices Children’s music often contains lots of layers that are hard to replicate at home. All our songs contain just one unaltered voice to listen to. A real person (me, Julie) singing a real song, simply.

  • No culturally insensitive material All songs and rhymes must pass our cultural understanding values. Bigotry and discrimination are never OK.

  • No objectifying children’s bodies We refer to their bodies as amazing and capable but never to their size or shape. We celebrate the fact that bodies come in all shapes, colours, and sizes. We believe words matter and the adults in children’s lives should be body-positive ambassadors.

  • No child-inappropriate vocals We set all songs within your child’s natural vocal range to keep their vocal chords strong and healthy, and all vocabulary content is strictly child-friendly too. We don’t want your little ones talking like pirates, so we promise to always keep it clean.

  • No out-of-reach material We handpick all songs and rhymes to sit within your child’s Goldilocks Zone of Learning. We want to stretch and support children as they learn so we make sure our videos build on your child’s learning and development.

  • No advertising This is not YouTube or a social media platform. We promise to never advertise to your children.

The Family Music Club is accessible on the go
or at home — wherever you have internet.

In the Family Music Club, we don't just make music. We give your children the tools to self regulate and YOU the opportunity to connect with them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have access to the VIP Vault?

The Family Music Club is an ongoing membership program — you’ll have access to all videos in the vault for as long as you continue your membership.

Can I cancel my membership any time?

Absolutely! There’s no lock-in contract with the Family Music Club. You can cancel any time. Why not give it a go for a month and see if it works for your family?

How long are the videos?

The session videos are short — just 20-25 minutes. We follow a simple format so that you know how each one will be presented.
The individual song videos are just minute or two, so you can quickly find the song you’re looking for, without wading through a whole session.

Are the songs the same as the ones you perform in your face-to-face classes?

The Family Music Club builds on the repertoire and format we follow in our face-to-face classes. New families have the joy of discovering our repertoire from scratch. But if you’ve attended one of our sessions in person, you’ll recognise the format and enjoy some continuity. Your child can return to their favourites but there are plenty of new nuggets as well!

Do I need to buy any specific props?

There’s no such thing as the ‘right’ equipment at Sounds Like This! We want our music making sessions to be as accessible as possible, so we only use props that commonly show up in the family home. We also suggest alternatives to the props we use so you can keep participating without missing a beat.

I’m not very ‘musically inclined’. Do I need to be a good singer or musician to participate with my child?

Absolutely not. You’re not performing at the Sydney Opera House! When it comes to connecting musically with your children, there’s no such thing as ‘perfect’ and we don’t expect you to have any level of understanding of music.

We’ll show you how our music is good for a child’s development but the best thing you can do is participate and connect with them through music — wherever you’re at.

Yes, you can! This club is a brilliant resource not only for families with young children but for kindergartens and early learning settings. Just think how incredibly useful having hundreds of hours of high quality early-learning musical resources on hand would be for all staff. ELS are so welcome to sign up to our club, just like families.

Can I use this in my daycare?

About Sounds Like This

Sounds Like This is a space dedicated to nurturing childhood development, community building, and connected music making.

Sounds Like This takes a WHOLE community approach. We know the benefits of music on childhood development. But we also understand how music making empowers carers and builds bonds between poppets and parents.

On the surface, you see bright colours and big smiles. You hear pot-banging and plenty of giggles. You and your children feel like a happy little Vegemite.

But what you can’t see is that every lesson is structured, strategic, and brain-based. It’s grounded in strong musical theory.

We know we’ve done our job when your child embodies the joy and tenets of music — rhythm, pitch, tempo, melody, and harmony — without even knowing it.

Julie Murray is the Chief Music Maker and Neuro Music Educator at Sounds Like This. She’ll be delivering all of your online sessions.

From the first moment she tootled on her beige Yamaha recorder at the age of 7, she has lived and breathed music — that’s more than 30 years of musical obsession.

Ready for a super condensed 30+ year overview?

Deep breath…

She charmed local market-goers out of their loose change while busking, studied at the Melba Conservatorium, and played in orchestras, concert bands, chamber ensembles, as a children’s storybook narrator with Orchestra Victoria and as a solo performer. Oh, and she taught at Melba too.

… And exhale.

Phew!

After all this, Julie’s music passion led to an obsession with the brain changing benefits music can have on the young. So she created Sounds Like This — and the Family Music Club — to support carers in nurturing and bonding with their children through music.

Julie is…

Chief Music Maker

Dr Anita Collins certified Neuro Music Educator

Host of State Library Victoria’s Children’s Quarter 2021 and 2022

Dr John Feierabend-accredited teacher in First Steps in Music and Conversational Solfege

Music Practitioner at the Currajong School (Malvern)

Music educator to over 1000 children since 2003
