Music Incursions
that seamlessly incorporate the
EYLF
Sounds Like This’ programs inspire
a lifelong love of music and learning
Music education and active music-making changes the way the brain grows during a child’s first few years (in all weird and wonderful ways).
Early childhood is a critical period for development, and we understand the profound impact these formative years have on a child's future.
Sounds Like This believes in cultivating young minds through the magic of play-based music experiences.
Music making helps brains process a host of functions better and faster and increases each child’s capacity for life-long learning.
Clever, kind, curious, safe and confident littlies that grow into their best selves.
That’s what Sounds Like This is all about.

Our own expertise and experiences
Sounds Like This aims to enhance each child’s appreciation of music and musical elements while having a tonne of fun.
In each session
Sounds Like This’ experienced practitioners will use songs, movement, storytelling, instrumental play, and props, supporting children to:
Gain confidence while being creative and expressive
Positively build on the relationship with their carer
Enhance their cognitive development
Expand their language development
Encourage and reinforce coordination through fine and gross motor movement (specifically age-appropriate to the children in that session)
Encourage cross-hemispheric development and engagement
Build on social and emotional understanding and skills
Extend verbal and non-verbal communication skills
Learn through play
Direct their own learning, as our experienced presenter moves the sessions with the children’s interests
Our sessions are all about voice exploration and active listening. We sing mostly without accompaniment (and always without synthetic music). Percussion instruments help us to explore beat, pitch, rhythm, and timbre. We might even bring ukuleles, flutes, clarinets, violins, French horns, and other quality tuned-instruments for your children to explore.
Our singing is pitched for children’s growing vocal anatomy so their voices are protected and they can learn to sing tunefully and beautifully. Our songs explore the entire language of music, tonalities, beat, and rhythm.

-
Tailored to a number of age groups ie: babies only, toddlers only, kindergarten children, mixed age groupings
-
ei: Is this child developmentally ready for sharing, or is turn taking the more appropriate strategy?
ei: Do the children have to sit down, or can more be gained by moving and navigating the space with peers?
-
We know that movement is essential for brain development in young children – strengthening bodies and minds!
All incursions incorporate multiple senses and playing using movement, in-fact our experiences lean into this!
Let’s gallop, twirl, jump and wiggle through our music making.
-
We understand that children’s wants and needs change constantly, and we love to follow their lead.
-
We’re ever-conscious of each child’s consent and autonomy. We know that a child’s very best learning happens when we all feel safe, comfortable and confident to share their own ideas.
We believe in empowering children to understand and assert their right to bodily autonomy. Fostering healthy consent starts in early childhood.
-
Sounds Like This on-going-incursions are pretty much the very best PD you’ll ever do!
We adore empowering and educating Early Years Educators throughout our programs, because we know that each Early Years Educator has the potential to impact (at least) hundreds of lives.
We want to ensure this impact is as fruitful as can be, because we know it will shape the children’s current and whole future lives.
-
Delivered using beautiful quality instruments and engaging props are a must in all of our programs.
-
All of our singing is delivered with careful understanding of childhood vocal anatomy.
You can be assured the children’s delicate vocal instruments are in safe hands.
-
We are supportive of your centre’s activities!
If you’d like, our incursions may be themed to further support your centre’s other learning streams, topics, and the children’s interests. Simply let us know and we’ll incorporate it!
-
At Sounds Like This we know that the time spent planning, purchasing materials, training (and honing those skills), setting up, packing up, washing touched items and balancing staffing demands all adds up.
Let us take the grunt work out of delivering a high quality program in your space with affordable and accessible to your early childhood education space.
-
If you have multiple spaces at your ELC we’d be delighted to conduct multiple sessions in the centre on the one day.

Our music-making sessions are enriching for your children AND your staff. Our hands-on musical play incursions provide numerous learning opportunities, supporting the development of all key intelligences for young children.
And we share key insights with your centre educators to encourage interaction and play in your centre well beyond our sessions.

Sounds Like This is a small team of highly skilled educators dedicated to investing in childhood development, community building, and connection through music-making.
We are kindergarten and primary trained teachers, educational leaders, and inclusion and
diversity informed musicians.
This work is our passion.
We are truly obsessed with the incredible process of growing brains! And we’re in love with the journey of learning.
When you put the two together, you'll discover that our dedicated teachers are consistently striving to improve our understanding of how the brain functions when engaged in the process of making music — and then skillfully applying this valuable knowledge to enhance our curriculum.
Sounds Like This is a small private business founded by certified Neuro-Music Educator Julie Murray.
